Hi, I'm Gary Smith, a UK based outsider artist and occasional DJ.
In my work I'm trying to express the beauty, poetry and truth of atheism and science using the colour and imagery of the Mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
There are no religious or supernatural elements in my work, instead you'll find references to the sciences (particularly physics and astronomy), mathematical equations, Epicurean philosophy, and other secular themes. I set these works in Cactus County, a fictional, Epicurean utopia located in the desert of New Mexico, populated by atheists, scientists, philosophers, artists, musicians and generally by jolly good eggs.
I'm untrained in art, just working it out as I go along. I've sold a number of pieces, and the musician Piney Gir has used one of my works as the cover art for one of her EPs.
All work shown on this website is my own and I hold the copyright. I am also an honorary Sheriff of Cactus County and I'm a crack shot! Happy trails!
